Driving transformation in financial services

Three decades of empowering black professionals and businesses across South Africa's financial sector.

Our Story

The Association of Black Securities and Investment Professionals (ABSIP), was established in 1995 to address the apparent lack of representation of black professionals in the securities and investment industry. It was also conceived as a platform to address the aspirations of those in the industry and to create a forum for black professionals to exchange information and ideas. The mandate of ABSIP has evolved to encompass the empowerment of black professionals and black business across the financial services sector. Its membership has grown to include sub-sectors such as Asset Management, Corporate Banking, Corporate Finance, Corporate Managerial and Financial Consulting, Employee Benefits, Insurance, Investment Banking, Retail Banking; Private Banking, Private Equity, Stockbroking, Treasury and Development Finance Institutions (DFIs).

What Guides Us

Vision

A transformed, fully inclusive, ethically run financial services sector that equitably represents black professionals and black business to enable sustainable growth for the sector and South Africa at large.

Our Pillars

The foundations that drive our mission forward.

01

strong advocacy

The intersection between market participants, policymakers and regulators is an important part of any economic model. Policies implemented by government and other governing institutions impact our everyday lives – whether you are a corporate, an entrepreneur or an individual. A healthy economic ecosystem requires appropriately designed and well implemented policies that form the basis of the social contract between the state, society and business. As an organisation that represents various stakeholders and market participants in the financial services sector; collaboration, contribution, communication and participation in policy design, implementation and review therefore forms a critical part of ABSIP's mandate.

02

networks & linkages

ABSIP has relationships and connections with a vast number of corporations, governmental institutions, and prominent individuals. Members of ABSIP, will get to leverage ABSIP relationships to grow their own network. Members will gain access to engagement opportunities, networking events and service opportunities

03

engagement platform

ABSIP intends to offer a platform for management to openly engage with their staff and other social partners who are ABSIP members on issues pertaining to the company. The CEO Roundtable aims to reduce the information asymmetry between the management and staff and improve the relationship between these stakeholders so as to improve the organisation's standing in society. The CEO Roundtable will only be available to companies who are ABSIP corporate members. Some of our corporate members are listed below.

04

continuous learning & development

ABSIP has created a skills development and training series that will equip members with the information and tools necessary to help navigate this ever-changing world. The programmes are mostly structured as interactive events, whereby we bring the top minds from different sectors of the economy to unpack the subject in detail and share insights into certain ideas, themes, and trends
