ABSIP 2022 Financial Services Sector Awards

Issued by ABSIP President, Ms Polo Leteka

JOHANNESBURG, 11 OCTOBER, The Association of Black Securities and Investment Professionals (ABSIP) invites key stakeholders, partners and members to the ABSIP 2022 Financial Services Sector awards on the 3rd of November 2022 in Johannesburg.

The ABSIP Awards are annually held in celebration and recognition of excellence in the financial services sector. As ABSIP, we remain committed to advancing and championing transformation in the financial services sector. The ABSIP Awards provide an opportunity to reflect on achievements in
advancing transformation and also highlight individual and institutional
progress towards this key national imperative.

The various diverse categories span the entire spectrum of financial services and reflect the growth of the sector in recent years. Talent in the sector has grown to tremendous heights and ABSIP would like to chart the way in being among the first to identify these leaders for their efforts in transforming the sector. We believe as a sector; we need more collaborations and concerted efforts to yield real advances towards transformation. Over the years, the awards have attracted esteemed guests such as the President of the Republic of South Africa, the Governor of the South African Reserve Bank, the Minister and Deputy Minister of Finance as well as CEOs of banks and Captains of Industry.

This year, we are delighted and pleased to announce that the theme for the awards is ‘Accelerating Transformation’, a theme we purposefully chose to complement our annual publication – The Pinnacle Magazine which showcases thought leaders and mavericks in the financial services sector.

“We need a thriving economy that is underpinned by an inclusive, diverse, and thriving financial services sector. The next phase of transformation necessitates the sector to build, train and empower a criticalmass that needs to be given a platform to use their skills and expertise to improve the sector. Transformation, specifically in the financial sector, is a business imperative. Research shows that the more diverse teams are in gender, race and culture that they invariably tend to outperform their counterparts. As ABSIP, we believe that the next focus of transformation should be on prioritizing digital transformation, environmental, social, and governance (ESG) initiatives, and having a more inclusive workplace culture”, said ABSIP
President Polo Leteka.

The awards also recognise and affirm corporates that have been making strides in the sector in transforming previously untransformed sub-sectors such as asset management, private equity and pension funds. “To this effect, we added more categories and sub-categories that were not included in the past. We feel that this year’s awards give more people an opportunity to participate, especially women, and honoured for the work they do to create a vibrant financial sector”, said Ms Prudence Makololo, ABSIP Awards Convenor.

Nominations for the awards are open and close on the 14th October 2022 and categories can be accessed HERE.

END.
