ABSIP AWARDS 2024

The Association of Black Securities & Investment Professionals (ABSIP) successfully hosted its 2024 Financial Services Sector Awards ceremony on 28 November, 2024. The event exuded a lively atmosphere, attracting an impressive gathering of esteemed delegates, including financial services industry leaders, sponsors from various banking and investment sectors, and dedicated ABSIP members.

The theme for the 2024 awards was “Pioneering Paths – Celebrating 30 Years of Leadership and Transformation in Financial Services,” highlighting three decades of excellence and progress in the industry.

Addresses by ABSIP President Mohau Polo Leteka, Absa’s Group Chief Marketing and Corporate Affairs Officer, Sydney Mbhele, and keynote speaker, Former Deputy President Dr. Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, underscored the critical need for financial inclusion across all sectors of society and the importance of cultivating the next generation of leaders.

Following a delightful dinner, enlivened by a vibrant performance from The Smoothies, the ceremony concluded with the well-deserved recognition of nominees, celebrating their dedication and contributions to transformation in the financial services sector.

This year, ABSIP introduced the Legacy Awards in key categories such as Private Markets, Retirement Funds, Stockbroking, Banking, Insurance, and Asset Management. These awards honoured firms that have significantly shaped South Africa’s financial services landscape, particularly as the country marks 30 years of democracy.

The event also featured a private art exhibition by Charles Masilela titled “Hearts of Alkebulans.” A stunning piece, entitled ‘Leading leaders – covalent’, was presented to keynote speaker Dr. Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka as a token of appreciation.

The cover of ABSIP’s 2024 Pinnacle Magazine (featuring Dr Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka) was also unveiled at the Awards ceremony, continuing our commitment to showcase industry-wide thought leadership research articles.
